About the event
Wendell Berry once wrote that "next great division of the world will be between people who wish to live as creatures and people who wish to live as machines." Whether we wish to live as machines or not, we are certainly encouraged to do so by existing social structures, which invite us to measure, analyze, and optimize every area of our lives for efficiency and productivity. Against that vision of the human as machine, this class will explore the resources of the Christian tradition for alternative practices of soul formation and visions of human flourishing grounded in a biblical account of the human person as a creature made in the image of God.
