"Refugia of the Soul: Shelter and Renewal for the Human Spirit in Unsettled Times"
In unsettled and disorienting times, where does the life-giving culture survive? In environmental studies, refugia is the name for pockets of shelter that preserve biological life in periods of ecological crisis. In this way, refugia also nurture the seeds of the wider ecosystem's eventual renewal. In this talk, our Director, Mike Sacasas, argues that we need analogous sites of refuge for the human spirit in the midst of cultural upheaval and disarray, and he explores how places like the Christian Study Center can preserve and foster life-giving practices, preparing the seed of spiritual and cultural renewal.
Speaker bio
Michael Sacasas earned his MA in Theological Studies from Reformed Theological Seminary in 2002. He was later a doctoral candidate at the University of Central Florida studying the relationship between technology and society with a focus on the work…
